I did last year trying to harden them off.
I spent about 40 bucks on food and milk for that little piglet in about a week. She was a cutie. A CRAZY cutie but for me it wasn't worth the time and money to raise her up. My husband has been invited to go hunting for wild pigs and that makes more sense to me. Plus we were getting attached to her and probally wouldn't have been able to do the deed anyway.Kellyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12326069783582536184noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8377621409604161109.post-14757805139813390122013-03-11T23:09:10.434-05:002013-03-11T23:09:10.434-05:00You won't be losing too much money if you bree...You won't be losing too much money if you breed them and sell some :)
I can't wait to watch the mamma's and their babies! These are her babies, I was saving eggs for her to sit on when she was killed so I ended up incubating them and ended up with seven girls and three boys :) My husband thinks they are worthless, since they just started laying and are already broody! I think it's cute. I just don't know what I will do with all these little chickens if those girls are successful!!!Kellyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12326069783582536184noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8377621409604161109.post-34988032365280074712013-03-11T21:34:49.971-05:002013-03-11T21:34:49.971-05:00I am so jealous of your seedlings mine look anemic...I am so jealous of your seedlings mine look anemic! :) I agree with Carolyn, although we don't raise meat goats yet but we don't hunt either but it bears thinking about.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8377621409604161109.post-36729670876855896002013-03-11T20:57:46.619-05:002013-03-11T20:57:46.619-05:00Too bad about the wild piglet, I would have LOVED ...Too bad about the wild piglet, I would have LOVED to see how she grew up. Although I have to admit, I also wonder why we are raising (i.e. spending tons of money) meat goats when we can get "free" deer every year. Hmmmmmm......
Hope your broody hens hatch out a big clutch! Nothing like NOT having to brood chicks yourself. It's ALL about streamlining and making things easier on ourselves, harvesting already-grown food in the wild or having the hens take care of the chicks.Carolynhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14436557172029575513noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8377621409604161109.post-31659902738189022662013-03-11T19:51:57.561-05:002013-03-11T19:51:57.561-05:00Things are looking mighty fine out your way!
