Hey Y'all

Some of my sweet blog buddies were concerned if I was okay, well I am :)))) I've been busy trying to stay afloat with all the rain/flooding we have had. I have been mucking wheel barrows of mud just to get my animals areas dry and sanitary and then it would rain AGAIN. I'm hoping we stay dry for awhile. Today I need to muck the barn. Last time I posted I had three goats well this year both my girls had twins! So I have SEVEN goats total right now. My oldest buckling is for sale and has recently become a maniac. If he doesn't sell soon I think I'm going to add goat to my diet :)) I love that little booger to death but he's gone NUTS!!!! I haven't saved any milk yet this year. With all the new additions and the rain it's been a three ring muddy circus. I'm hoping to get into a better routine once the babies are gone.
I've found a bounty of wild plums at my in laws. I made jelly and saved some seeds. I hope to have my own little thicket here soon. I also found a bee tree on their place. I haven't had any luck trapping those bees yet. The first swarm was so huge my father in law said my box wouldn't have held it. I'm going to try a persuade them to let me put my hive on their property and bait it. Eventually it would be awesome to have my apiary at their place. Its a bee paradise and it's just a 45 minute drive
My chickens have destroyed my strawberry patch again. I got ZERO berries this year. My garden was a bust because of the rain. I have been cleaning it up and getting ready to plant a Fall garden. I hope it's bountiful.
Here's my babies Lady had a boy and a girl April 21st And Darcy had two boys June 20th

  1. Well HELLO there stranger! Glad to see you are still around and busy as a beaver. Us too, the estate is bustling. I still love your goats, and wouldnt mind getting a pygmy. But Senior gives me a wonky look.for the life of me I can't figure out why though ! My chickens are doing good, although this unrentless heat killed one of my roosters.
I have know also gotten into Jersey Giants..those guys are doing excellant, and can't wait for them to start making me some babies...

Please take care and hope you are able to post more often....

  2. Wet here but not mud like you have, at least the weeds pull easily. I have had goat fixed by Haitians and Jamaicans and it was excellent. I must admit that I would rather eat goat than raise them. Maybe it will dry out and have a good second half of the year.

    1. I'm hoping for an excellent Fall crop and a little less work with the animals.
I can't believe I would even think of eating him but he has become a major pain in the butt

  3. Kelly.

    1. I wasn't concerned. You have never been normal :)

It's too bad you didn't catch that swarm. You would be amazed at how many bees will fit comfortably. If that tree is kicking out swarms I would put a couple of traps within about 100 yards or so of it and see if you can catch one next year.

    1. Being normal would be boring!
I plan on trying to catch some bees again next year. The swarm went the opposite direction of my trap so I'm going to put it over there next time

  4. Good to see a post from you! I've missed hearing what has been happening on your homestead. Your goats are beautiful. I've always loved Nubians. I'd love to get my hands on those soft, soft ears!

    1. Thank you! I missed everyone's homesteading business too. Those ears are adorable that's what made me go with Nubians :)

  5. So very cute, and so happy to see you posting again!! Sorry to hear about your strawberries, but glad you were able to get some jam out of your in laws plums!! I am right there with you on all the rain destroying the garden. I doubt I'll even get a tomato this year ( evil blight ). That would be great to have bees at your in laws too! Do they have a lot of area that a hive can hang out and not bother anyone?

    1. I've gotten two tomatoes. My volunteer plants are doing WAY better than the ones I bought, go figure :/
My inlaws have about 80 acres of bee paradise. They only stay there once or twice a week so the bee's wouldn't bother them until they mow. I still haven't asked them about putting a hive or two out there but it's such a great habitat for bees I think they would thrive

  6. Hi Kelly . . . oh, it is so good to see you. I know that you're one busy gal, what with a husband, children, a farm and animals . . . well, it is a wonderful that you ever have time to blog. Your goats are adorable. I want a goat, but my Steve says no. He wants to be able to take off and not be tied down to caring for animals. So, I'll just be happy with our dog. Again, it's nice to see you :)
