We had an accident :(

Day one of having the new land and we had an accident. The hubs had to work Saturday and when he came home he was going to shoot his guns. I was going to shoot with him since all the girls were going to be gone. Well plans changed when grandpa showed up with a chainsaw. They went to work clearing vines and limbs. We are trying to get a path cleared to put up a fence and they have been clearing our land for four years so this isn't anything new. Anyways I was feeding the chickens when the hubs hobble runs by saying "my leg my leg". I put everything down and by the time I got to the porch he had looked at it and decided we needed to go. He had cut his leg with the chainsaw so deep it nicked his bone. I got him to the ER in good time and they took their sweet time working on him. Six hours later he was all stitched up inside and out and we were able to go home. I set my alarm for every four hours to wake him up to take pain meds. So far the pain is tolerable and he's sleeping ALOT.
I tend to analyze everything to find what lessons are to be learned or the reasons things happen but I've been so worried for my husband that I haven't thought much about it. Soon I will be worried about other things. He's not going to be able to work for a while. He's not going to be able to drive. He's not going to be able to help me around here. We are kind of on hold until he heals. I realized today how much I need him. How quick he is to do little things for me when I ask. How nice it is just to have him running around in the yard or able to run an errand. I need him everyday and now he needs me. Hopefully I will be a good nurse and he will heal quickly ♥

  1. I sorry the accident happened, but thank God he is alright and alive. We'll be here when you have time...you'll be in or thoughts.

  2. I am sorry this happened. We have certainly had our share of accidents here, often when my husband is in a hurry to complete a task because he is mindful that he must return to work tomorrow morning. Take good care, both of you !

  3. Okay, just put everything (but the very barest of essentials) on hold for a few days. Take deep breaths and put your energy toward taking care of him. (I know you will.) That's your most important job right now. The kids will help out, too, don't forget. Things will look a lot different a week from now and nothing is going to fall apart in that amount of time. It sounds like it was a very serious injury but he's home and will heal quickly once the trauma subsides. It could have been worse. But, holey moley, something like that sure does make you count your blessings, doesn't it? Keep us updated, please. Sending hugs!

  4. I agree with Mama Pea but also, remember to take care of yourself! If you let yourself get run down by doing too much, you won't be any good to anyone.
Hope all goes smoothly from here on out.

  6. As Mama Pea said ... deep breaths. The same thing happened to my husband when we were clearing our land about 23 years ago. It had been raining so 'the crew' decided to wait until the next day to go back to the land clearing. But hubby wanted to go ahead & get those small logs cut up & out of the way. Well, it was wet & the chainsaw slipped & he cut down to the knee cap. Yep, 6 hours later in the ER & he was stitched up fine. Set us back a couple of weeks but lessons learned. We were just looking at those scars recently. What memories ... lol.

  7. Kelly...Thank God hubby is going to be OK. It's hard doing the work of two people. One or the other, me or Papa Bear have been sick since Thanksgiving. It makes for long days. I just had to keep saying...it's not forever, it's not forever. Things did not fall apart when only the minimum of things were done.

Will remember you all in my prayers!

  8. I have been lucky with my saw (so far) it only takes a split second for thing to go bad and I have found that using one for cleaning up and cutting stuff other than fire wood is more dangerous as you don't use typical procedures. Hubby is lucky that he has a tough girl and you will get through it but it will be hard on him that he can't be doing stuff right away but make him behave!

  10. Oh my, I'm glad it wasn't more serious! Not that this was "not", but you know what I mean. Take care of your man, but take care of yourself too, you'll be running around and forget that YOU need to be in good shape to take care of HIM.

  11. Kelly,

This could have been pretty serious. I'm happy to hear the hospital cleaned, and stitched your hubby up. Maybe he should consider the wrap around chaps for cutting when using a chain saw. These protect your legs from getting cut. My son cuts with a chain saw and he scares the crap out of me. So we picked him up a set of chaps. Check out this website: http://www.baileysonline.com/shop.axd/Search?keywords=chainsaw+chaps&gclid=COeG8NWx-7sCFcSBfgodeXUAJQ
It's just a thought for protection.

  12. Sorry aboutt he accident. Like SF said I stopped using my big saws for little stuff and went to smaller battery powered saws for cleaning out areas less chance of kickback and such.

  13. I'm so sorry to hear this about your husband. I pray he heals and gets well quickly! Yes, I agree with you about how much we need our husbands....I thought of this the other day. We are renovating a cottage and my hubby works so hard....I thank God for him everyday! And I'm sure you will take very good care of him! Blessings~~~Roxie

  14. Oh my. Maybe you both need to just take some time and rest. I am thankful the injury wasn't worse, and pray that he heals quickly. Let the goats clear the fenceline for a while. You and the girls take care of daddy, he'll be back up and working in no time.

  15. How scary! I'm with Sandy on the chaps suggestion. They can be lifesavers. My husband wore out his 1st pair after years of use and just purchased his 2nd set from the local John Deere dealer. Many hardware stores that carry chainsaws in our area have these in stock. It's nice to be able to try them on to be sure of the best coverage/fit. You want to get the correct length. They're worth every penny. I hope your husband recovers quickly.

  16. Thank God the injury was't worse and could be treated. For years, I've tried to get Daddy to wear leather chaps...especially after he had a similar accident. Does he listen to his first born? Nooooo, so we all continue to worry.

  18. That’s horrible! It’s hard to imagine that a simple clearing would lead your hubby to ER. But I’m glad that he’s fine, despite all that happened. I hope he’ll be able to get up with you soon.

  19. Ouch! That was painful! I’m sorry to hear about that accident. Well, we may not be able to learn it right away, or we may not be able to learn it at all, but I’m sure there’s always a bright side to the unfortunate things that happen to us. I hope your husband is on his way to recovery, if he hasn’t gone there yet.
