This is a picture of one of Squirty's eggs. It is very clear and all you see is the yolk floating around. They are ALL like this! The other five eggs are soo dark I couldn't take a picture! I guess I am going to take these five eggs out so they don't blow up and make a mess :( Eight more days, I am crazy giddy over this! I hope I did everything right and all five hatch!!!!
In my garden I am still harvesting cucumbers and okra! Four of my new tomatoe plants are doing great, one is not looking to good. My pumpkin plant is blooming like crazy, after a brief attack of squash bugs, I need to look it over again today to keep it growing good! Have a great day everyone ☺
Hahaha! That pic of the egg caught my eye, I thought it was a pic of Mars! I'm glad I read it was an egg though!
ReplyDeleteI know it does!!! LOL!!!
DeleteYeah, that definitely looks like a dud. Bummer :(
ReplyDeleteAren't squash blossoms beautiful?
I love the flowers on squash and okra! My sweet potatoe plants actually had a pretty purple blossom too ☺ I was going to throw out the eggs and my youngest freaked out and said "what if there is a baby in there" so I couldn't do it, but I'm so afraid they are going to bust!
DeleteYour plants look good, I think people eat the blossoms but I have never tried them. The male ones just die anyway so it would be neat to try them sometime. Bugs are what killed my plants by spreading disease so finding some way to keep the squash bugs off must be the key.
ReplyDeleteMy pumpkin plant looked really good and then one day it didn't and it was infested! I spent hours killing bugs and squishing eggs by hand in the hot, hot sun After removing all the bugs and eggs I didn't want my hard work to go to waste so I decided to use some neem oil. I've had to squish eggs a couple of times since then but with the rain and the lack of bugs my plant is back to life with a vengance!
DeleteI wish there was some inexpensive netting that could be put over rows or at least plants. I have thought of taking a lot of bugs and putting that in a blender and liquefying them and letting bacteria grow. Then assuming (which may be the flaw in all of this) that the bacteria would attack the live bugs, I would spray the mess on the plants. I haven't tried it yet, seems like too nasty a job but it might work.
DeleteI'm excited for you too!! Hope they all turn out to be girls.
ReplyDeleteI didn't think about them all being girls, wouldn't that be something!!!
DeleteI never had much luck with ocra. I let the fruit get to big and then it gets too hard to eat. But the plant is huge for the amount of eating material.
ReplyDeleteMy most successful plant (other than lettuce) was a volunteer spaghetti squash.
Hi Russell, I tend to let my get on the big side but only one or so will be too tough, and I ♥ fried potatoes and okra!!! I am not a huge fan of squash since I have battled bugs every year! Our last two summers have been dreadful and the grasshoppers and roly poly's are the only thing multiplying in this heat! This is the first time my pumpkins have looked promising though :) With three girls not having to buy carving pumpkins this year will be worth the hassle to me!
Deleteyes the egg looks like its not fertile. But sounds like you got several more that are. We get excited when its close to hatch day also. its very rewarding to see the little bugger running around chirping. Good Luck and God bless.
ReplyDeleteOhh, I am soo excited!!!! I ♥ chickens especially baby chicks! You guys take care this week! I don't know how close to the ocean you are but I can't seem to quit worrying about y'all. This is why I don't ever watch the freakin' news!!! I am a worrier ☺

ReplyDeleteI thought the first picture was of a cheese round coated with wax! (You could have had an interesting contest going if you had posted the picture without an explanation and asked all of us to guess what it was!)
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping to get pumpkins for carving this year, too. But our season will end so soon that they may not mature. There are several really nice sized ones but I don't have high hopes that they will have time to turn orange.
Sending wishes for good luck with the eggs!
I wish I would have thought of that game! It would have been funny to hear the answers. I am hoping these pumpkins grow quickly, or they may be used as decorations at Thanksgiving instead of Halloween ☺
