Stopped by the feed store today to get a gazillion bags of feed. I had a coupon for 10% off your entire purchase so I went big :) We have a tiny mouse issue going on so I'm hoping they stay out of it until I get some trash cans to put it all in. After getting the feed I ran into the grocery store next door to grab a couple things for supper. On my way out I asked the bakery if they had any plastic buckets that they were going to throw away. I guess they do sometimes but they aren't free :/ It took the lady forever to look in the back I think half a dozen people asked me if I needed help. She finally comes back and asks the nice man making sushi if he had any. He did, he asked me how many I wanted I said as many as I can get. He comes back with 2. The bakery women were trying to figure out how to charge me a dollar for these, which defeated my purpose of free buckets but whatever I'll take them. Then the nice fella making sushi, who had heard me mumbling that I wasn't paying for buckets that were going to be thrown away, told the bakery ladies that those were his buckets and he didn't want to charge me ☺ So after a LONG while sitting at the counter I came home with two free food grade buckets with lids. They used to contain ginger so that won't be too hard to clean out. I'm super excited to get them, now I just need to find another source that doesn't make it into such a big deal.
Earlier today I spotted the three deer that are in my yard. It's a mamma and her baby boy and girl. The camera took some good pictures. In this one I was looking at them so mamma was looking at me lol!
Fast food restaurants usually have buckets for free, but sometimes they will have cold grease in them, ask them, and see if they will save you some and give you a time to pick them up.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the advise! This was the first time I asked anyone for buckets but now I'm on a mission :)
DeleteKelly,
ReplyDeleteDo you have a Costco, or Sam's Club? If so, call ahead and ask for the bakery manager. Explain you're working on a project and need food grade buckets with lids. This is how I get mine. I usually go every time I have to go in town. When I get the buckets I bring a plastic garbage bag because some have not been cleaned.
We have a Sam's Club. I will call them. Thanks for the advise :)
DeleteYou got a good deal on the buckets even if they had of charged you a dollar as they had lids. I put the chicken feed in old milk cans which hold one 50lb sack of feed perfectly and the lids turn the water if it blows in on them.
ReplyDeleteI know, even at .50c a piece it was an excellent deal. I just bought a 5 gallon bucket and lid from Walmart to put homemade laundry detergent in and the lid alone was over a dollar.
DeleteWe have a chest freezer that isn't being used. I'm thinking about putting our feed in there until we figure something else out ☺
I second the local restaurants idea. Mine would use the 5 gallon ones for old grease, but the square margarine buckets went home with the super cool kitchen manager [me ;-) ].
ReplyDeleteThe local donut shop is also a good place ask.
These buckets were the small square ones. I kinda like them better for stacking and space saving
DeleteWe have a donut shop just down the road, thanks for the tip :)
Here, our local Publix gives them away free...usually three and a half gallon buckets. Some sandwich shops are known to give their pickle buckets away too.
ReplyDeleteSo many good tips ☺ Thanks!
DeleteWell, you got the buckets and that's the main thing. I know you don't want to buy them but if you ever get caught in a pinch Walmart has them where I live and they are cheap. Also Emergency Essentials sells them and all the things that go with them, like different lids, bucket openers, etc.
ReplyDeleteI liked the deer picture.
I should bring a plastic garbage bag.
