Fodder Day 4

I forgot to take a pic yesterday, but here's today's growth. I'm also growing mold :/ After some research I realized my house is too hot so today I'm going to put a little fan on the pans and turn the heater down to 69* Hopefully the mold will stop. I only have three pans going since I haven't went to the Dollar Tree again. I also need a new rack it's still not very organized.

  1. Can the mold be rinsed off or will it effect the outcome?

    1. This has been interesting, nerve racking and exciting. My small fan won't work so back to the drawing board or the store :/

  3. It is very interesting, so this is going to turn into a seed to feed system for the live stock right?

  5. Good going! My girls are so loving the fodder that I bought the 12 tray automated system from Half Pint Homestead. According to my calculations, it should pay for itself in 4.2 months.

As for the mold, I have mine in trays without holes. I'm finding that when I water more often (2-3 times a day) instead of once a day, I get less mold. My house is about 68 degrees and I have the trays in my kitchen window.

Any little bits with mold, I'm giving to my chickens and they don't seem to care. Are you soaking the grains with bleach first? I have been rinsing the grains, then soaking in 2 inches of water with a splash of bleach for about an hour. Then rinsing again and soaking another 8-12 hours or so. Mold has been minimal.
