Why am I......

so sore? You would think I gave birth to the little one. I feel like I've been hit by a semi truck! Several days ago I pulled a muscle in my upper back/neck working in the garden it's still sore and now my legs are killing me. I guess I did some major squats yesterday  ☺ I also backed up into the stanchion trying to take a pic of the baby and bruised my butt pretty good.

So I'm already going to be annoying with questions. How can you tell if he's eating enough? I've watched him nurse but it doesn't last long. I milked her biggest side this morning and she already looks like she's about to bust. I think the next time I milk her I will see if he would take a bottle just for my peace of mind. I've also got the barn pretty much draft free and closed up since we had nasty weather the last few days. I'm thinking Mrs. Lady would like to get the heck out of there for a little while so I'm going to take down the makeshift wall. Hopefully the little dollface won't get too cold.

Is it normal that he sneezes alot too? I'm assuming he's clearing his airways still. It just seems like alot of sneezing. He's getting around really well, at 1 day old he's already trying to jump on walls and he's head butting. Cutest thing I've ever seen ☺

I need to clean up chicken poo today and really give the coops the once over. They were severly neglected yesterday and with this rain it's pretty nasty.

Enjoy the day ya'll!

  1. If he knows where the milk is, he's getting plenty. They like to nibble when they are new. A little suckle here, and a little suckle there. They like to do that just so that us humans will get worried ; )

    1. Thanks Kimberly, it makes me feel better to hear this from people who know ☺ He is jumping around and driving his mom crazy today so I guess he's getting enough. I went ahead and milked her late this morning and awhile ago. She seemed relieved, and I got a quart of milk to make soap with ☺

  3. I kind of remember them being like that when very young, probably won't be long until he empties most of the milk. Enjoy him while he is little!

    1. I think he will start nursing better soon. They grow up way too fast and he's a little doll right now ☺

  4. Does will not let the kids nurse long either. He will be off and on the teat all day just seconds to a minute at a time.

Warning....if you give the kid a bottle even if it is one time he will forever be in your business....they never forget you were a Mama to them too! With that said I always try to give mine a bottle to keep them all friendly towards me and other people.

Goats make a sneezing noise when they are warning others of danger. He may be trying that out for himself. Mine did it at 1 or 2 days old especially if the cat was nearby but not a lot. Could be as you said...just trying to blow his nose!

Have fun,,,You will soon be suffering from MGS bahahahaha

    1. He wouldn't take the bottle, he is already soo stubborn LOL!
My doe stares at him like she's willing him to wake up and I caught her today doing this tongue thing she does to me that means EAT. I think she wanted him to eat LOL! He seems to be doing alright by himself. I do put him up to her just so I can see him eating ☺
It's hard to believe, after a year of having goats. I finally have one in milk, it's unreal!

  5. They only suck a little here and there when they're little. If you force too much milk in, you'll give him scours. As long as he's found the dairy bar, he's fine.

Onyx's little girls sneezed a good bit. I think they inhaled some fluid and it took them a while to clear their airways.

Doesn't it feel great to have a goat in milk!? I'm sure her milk will be creamy and delicious and a wonderful addition to your fridge. My boys will hardly drink cow milk anymore.

    I'm glad she's a good mama!
