Yesterday was a hard day. I intervened when I should have let nature take it's course. The baby chick didn't make it and by helping it hatch, I prolonged its misery. I screwed up folks and I can't take it back. So today with a sad heart, I am moving forward. I have repotted most of my seed starts. They are growing wonderfully, Spring better hurry up and get here because I'm ready! I've packed my goat birthing bag. My does ligaments were loose Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. I didn't check them yesterday and today they are tightened back up. I don't know what this means, but I am ready for her to kid. Last night I noticed I have a broody hen. The funny thing is she likes to lay her eggs in the little chickens coop not the big coop. So I drug her fanny out of there and put her to bed in her coop, but today she is back in the little coop and screaming at me when I check on her. I guess she will be living there for the next three weeks. I'm going to put some cochin eggs under her and hopefully we will have our first natural hatch this Spring ☺ Enjoy your day! I will be doing laundry and cleaning house :/

  2. I have been checking goat butts every night. Can't wait for kidding to start. Am sorry about your chick. It happens but it still hurts.

    1. How funny would it be if we get goat babies on the same day! My doe is not doing anything exciting since the weather is so yucky she just lays in the barn and eats LOL!

  3. Kelly, I have intervened with chicks and been lucky. I could have intervened and simply prolonged its passing. Hindsight is always 20/20. What's important is that we try with a gentle and honest heart. We can only facilitate their survival. It's up to God, and I believe he cares about them all.
Know that you did your best. Chances are that chick does.

    1. Thank you Jane your words are comforting ☺ I know if I didn't help it hatch I would have wondered if I could have saved it. I love all my fur babies even the ones I've just met, it's sad to watch them suffer.

  5. I messed with a hatching chick and it died, you never know as it probably would have died anyway as it was having trouble hatching. I try not to mess with them now but it is hard.

  7. I'm sorry you lost him. I have about a 40/60 success with helping them. It's so hard not to give it a try though.
